Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") announced today that it has released two new versions in the commercial series titled "Open mind. Envision the future." in which actress Mirika Otsuki depicts Toyota Tsusho's businesses: "Circular Economy" and "Healthcare."
The series is set in the Toyota Tsusho Gallery, a fictional space where various paintings related to Toyota Tsusho are displayed. The commercials tell the story of Otsuki as she faces the canvas, enters the world of the paintings, and experiences the uniquely competitive businesses of Toyota Tsusho. The themes of the previous installment, released in July 2024, were the company's "Africa business," which spans 54 countries across the continent, and its "renewable energy business," which boasts one of the largest power generation capacities in Japan. The new versions highlight the company's automobile recycling business, which it has been engaged in for over 50 years, and its hospital management and medical treatment-related services in India.
The "Circular Economy" commercial takes place at Toyota Metal Co., Ltd. (located in Handa City, Aichi Prefecture), which was established in 1970 and recycles over 100,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. It depicts Toyota Metal's efforts to effectively use limited resources for the future.

The new versions will be aired on TV from Friday, July 18, and will be displayed as digital signage advertisements from Monday, July 21, in main concourses of Tokyo Station, Shinagawa Station, Nagoya Station, and Osaka Station, as well as inside Yamanote Line trains.

■Comments from lead actress Mirika Otsuki
<Her impressions of the finished commercial>
Just like last year, the story begins with a scene of me painting, and since I love painting myself, I was really happy to have a role that felt so connected to who I am.
These commercials allowed me to experience so many things that I wouldn’t ordinarily have a chance to, like flying through the sky or exchanging greetings with people in India. It was so exciting!
<The things that impressed her during filming>
At the Toyota Metal plant where the filming took place, I was surprised at everything I saw.
Large cars were compressed into neat cubes and conveyor belts carried metal parts removed from cars along the lane at dizzying speed. Being able to see the environmentally-friendly separation of end-of-life cars is not something one ordinarily has the chance to do, and it gave me a chance to think about the environment.
For the studio shoot, the art sets with paintings and canvases hanging on the walls were truly wonderful. Even the sunlight streaming in through the windows and the trees were recreated in such realistic detail that I was mesmerized.
There were also plants on the set, making me feel of Toyota Tsusho's commitment to nature.
<Comments>
While taking part in these commercials, I had the opportunity to learn about Toyota Tsusho’s earth-friendly businesses.
Toyota Tsusho is aiming for a sustainable society in a variety of fields, including the circular economy, mobility, healthcare and renewable energy.
I hope that watching this commercial will encourage people of my generation to think about the environment.

My goal with these commercials was to fuse live action with animation to portray Toyota Tsusho’s automobile recycling business and its healthcare business in India in a way that makes viewers feel as if they were actually there. The Corporate Communications Department came up with the idea to use animation to depict green leaves as car parts. In India, I filmed while having many conversations with the doctors and nurses working there. I hope to continue using the power of video to help convey Toyota Tsusho’s vision of “passing down a better Earth to the children of the future.” |

In the commercials, I aimed for a sense of realism as if going on journey to a hospital in India and an auto recycling plant with Mirika Otsuki. The on-site work of Toyota Tsusho is depicted with a sense of speed and surprise, like a ride through an amusement park attraction. During filming, Otsuki enjoyed the encounters and discoveries she made on-site with all of her senses, and her natural smile added warmth and depth to the footage. Each and every one of her facial expressions enriches the journey in this video. Please take note of it when you watch them. |

I created the music with the intention of soaring through the regenerated forests and the skies of India. It felt as if I was accompanying Toyota Tsusho’s businesses on a long journey. I'm sure that the journey has only just begun, and look forward to seeing where the next part of the journey will take me. |

Set in the Toyota Tsusho Gallery, the commercial series uses Otsuki's paintings to encounter the real-life business that lies beyond our imagination. I focused on Otsuki’s leap as she is lured into the world of the paintings, and created the animation as she crosses the boundary between imagination and reality with a focus on her strength. I hope you enjoy the expression of fantasy and reality blending together. |
