Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho"), together with Yokogawa Solution Service Corporation ("Yokogawa"), have received an order to install a water supply management system for Société Nationale Des Eaux Du Sénégal on October 15. This project is carried out as part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ODA loan "Mamelles Sea Water Desalination Project" The system is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2024 and aims to stabilize the city water supply and improve services in the city of Dakar, Senegal, where it will be installed.

1. Water services in Senegal

About 30% of the country's population and about 80% of the industry are concentrated in the Dakar Region, where the capital of Senegal is located. However, it has not been possible to adequately respond to the increase in water demand, and the 24-hour water supply rate is at about 70%. In addition, there are many water leaks due to aging water pipes, and more than 2 million tons of water are lost annually due to these leaks. As the population is expected to grow further in the future, improving the safe and stable water supply capacity is an urgent issue for the country.

2. Details of the business

Sensors that collect flow and pressure data will be placed on approximately 200 locations on the water pipe network in the Dakar Region and a water pipe monitoring system that can identify problem areas such as leaks will be built. With this system, the locations of leaks can be quickly identified and repaired, and the amount of water loss due to water leaks can be significantly reduced.

Toyota Tsusho positions business in Africa as a priority business field. In particular, water infrastructure is indispensable to people's lives, and ensuring safe water is one of the important items of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This project is Toyota Tsusho's first water sector project in West Africa, and it is expected that the development of a water distribution network will greatly contribute to the improvement of the lives of the people of Senegal and the sustainable development of the economy.

Based on the philosophy of "WITH AFRICA FOR AFRICA," which aims to grow together with African people and society, Toyota Tsusho will continue to contribute to solving social issues in Africa and work to expand its business.
