2021-06-24

Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") announced today that it has been selected as a constituent of the global ESG (Environment, Social and governance) investment index, "FTSE4Good Index Series" and the "FTSE Blossom Japan Index" based on high evaluation of its ability to respond to domestic and international ESG factors.

In recent years, more initiatives have been launched to achieve SDGs globally. In the capital markets, there is increasing interest in "ESG investment," which evaluates companies and makes investment decisions from the perspective of ESG (environment, society, governance) as well as financial information.

In this context, indexes that prioritize ESG criteria, which are garnering the attention of investors from around the world are being widely utilized. The "FTSE4Good Index Series," which is developed and offered by FTSE Russell, is considered to be an important decision-making criterion for worldwide investors to select investment targets taking ESG initiatives into account.

The "FTSE Blossom Japan Index" was designed to measure the performance of Japanese companies that excel at ESG response. It is one of the four indexes adopted by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), which is the world's largest public pension management operation organization, for ESG investment.

Based on our corporate philosophy of "Living and prospering together with people, society, and the planet, we aim to be a value-generating corporation that contributes to the creation of prosperous societies," Toyota Tsusho considers this to be an unchanging ideal that should be passed onto the future. Toyota Tsusho is maximizing its corporate value by engaging in global environmentally friendly business and human resource development that contribute to society.

We are currently facing various issues such as abnormal weather phenomena associated with global climate change, forest destruction, resource depletion and human rights issues. Based on our corporate philosophy, Toyota Tsusho will continue to take a long-term viewpoint based on ESG standpoints and work to achieve a sustainable society.
