Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") announced today that it has invested in CROSS SYNC INC. ("CROSS SYNC"), a venture company originating from Yokohama City University, which develops and provides medical systems. Toyota Tsusho invested together with Konica Minolta, Inc., Development Bank of Japan Inc., and FINDEX Inc.

In medical settings, especially intensive care units (ICU), due to work such as visual follow-up of patients on a 24-hour basis, manual scoring of severity of disease, and management of data and schedules on paper, digitalization is not progressing. As a result, there are issues such as a chronic shortage of personnel, the risk of sudden changes in physical condition being overlooked, and an increased risk of infection due to increased contact with patients in the current coronavirus pandemic.

CROSS SYNC is a venture company from Yokohama City University with the vision of "ICU Anywhere," established in October 2019 by Dr. Shunsuke Takagi of Yokohama City University Hospital and others. The critically ill patient management system iBSEN developed by CROSS SYNC uses AI to analyze images from cameras as well as information from a patient's vital sensors and biometric information monitors in the ICU to predict sudden changes in a patient's condition. The data is sent in real time to devices such as medical personnel's personal computers and smartphones. This system will reduce medical accidents and improve the lifesaving rate, contribute to solving the shortage of personnel in the medical field, and reduce the risk of infection for medical personnel.

Through this investment, Toyota Tsusho will promote the digitalization of medical care with a view to introducing iBSEN to Sakra World Hospital operating in India and other facilities and realizing safe, reliable, efficient, and advanced ICU patient care.

Going forward, Toyota Tsusho will contribute to achieving Goal 3 "Good Health and Well-being" of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations by promoting medical business that utilizes digital tools.
