Three main reasons, listed below, were given for the selection of Toyota Tsusho.

Toyota Tsusho’s health and productivity management initiatives

1. Introduction of “Healthy Life-styles Challenge 8” Program, which aims to practice eight healthy habits

In April 2021, Toyota Tsusho introduced the “Healthy Life-styles Challenge 8” Program, which encourages health improvements in eight areas: Desirable weight, Exercise, Alcohol, Quit smoking, Breakfast, Snack and sweet, Sleep, and Stress. These activities can be expected to lead to improvements in lifestyle-related diseases and mental health. The company also carries out health management centered on preventing cancer and infectious diseases.

Through seminars and hands-on events related to this activity, Toyota Tsusho has been working to improve the health literacy of its employees and create opportunities for them to practice healthy habits. The company has achieved a degree of success in building a foundation for each employee to independently maintain and promote their health and improving their performance. By encouraging employees to practice healthy habits through Healthy Life-styles Challenge 8, the company will continue to promote changes in lifestyle choices and support the independent maintenance and promotion of good health by each employee.

2. Establishment of an environment to promote the active roles for female employees

In order to support the further success of female employees while taking into account the challenges of each life stage, the scope of availability of conventional menstrual leave has been extended. It can also be used for fertility treatment, from April 2020. In cooperation with the Health and Welfare Union, the company provides subsidies for examinations for diseases specific to women. In addition, in conjunction with International Women’s Day, the month of March every year has been designated as Women’s Health Promotion Month, and seminars on health issues for each life stage of working women have been held since FY2018.

In addition, in the process of developing candidates for next-generation female leaders, the company provides internal and external mentoring opportunities based on Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) to create an environment where women can participate actively and with vitality.

3. Cancer countermeasures

The number of cancer patients is increasing due to the aging of the Japanese population. In light of this, Toyota Tsusho continues to provide correct information on cancer prevention through seminars held by industrial physicians or in cooperation with outside organizations. The company also recommends cancer examinations through comprehensive medical examinations in cooperation with the Health and Welfare Union. In addition, the company continued to hold lectures by industrial physicians to provide correct knowledge on cancer prevention, and introduced gastric cancer risk screening (ABC screening) for all employees during periodic medical examinations in FY2018. In addition to this, colon cancer examinations (occult blood test) have been conducted for all employees over 40 years of age since FY2019. In addition to continuing support for the early detection of cancer risk and prevention of the onset of cancer through treatment, the company has established a workplace environment that allows employees to balance work and treatment with peace of mind, including a leave system that allows employees suffering from cancer to use for hospital visits and a work system that enables flexible work styles.

Toyota Tsusho recognizes that the physical and mental health of employees is the company’s most important asset. Going forward, Toyota Tsusho will continue to undertake health and productivity management based on the three pillars consisting of employee health, improvement of workplace vitality, and social contribution, and through enhancing the value of our human resources, aims to realize “People Company Toyotsu,” a value-generating company that contributes to the betterment of society.
