North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corporation, established by Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, a group company of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and other investors, received Minister of the Environment Awards for Climate Action 2024.

This award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding achievements in "climate change mitigation" *1 and "climate change adaptation" *2 by the Ministry of the Environment.

"Projects to develop the power grid including the largest storage battery system in Japan to utilize the abundant wind resources in the northern Hokkaido region for wind power generation" was recognized as an outstanding achievement in the field of climate change mitigation in the advanced introduction and positive practice category.


【Project Description】

Through this project, the largest storage battery system in Japan was installed and transmission and substation facilities were constructed, including a 78-km power transmission line from Wakkanai City to Nakagawa Town. As a result, one of the largest wind power generation facilities*3 in Japan was constructed in the northern Hokkaido region.

*1 Measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
*2 Measures to avoid or mitigate damage caused by climate change
*3 Nine onshore wind farms with a total capacity of 540 MW installed through the construction of transmission and substation facilities
