Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") announced today that it carried out construction for the relocation and establishment of two existing hydrogen stations operated by Toyota Tsusho Air Liquide Hydrogen Energy Corporation in Aichi Prefecture, in response to the expected increase of demand for hydrogen due to the widespread use of large fuel cell (FC) commercial vehicles. The stations began operation in March 2024.

In recent years, large FC vehicles including FC buses and trucks have been newly developed, which are expected to be the core of FC vehicles. Toyota Tsusho operated Nagoya Atsuta Hydrogen Station (Nagoya City) and Toyota Interchange Hydrogen Station (Toyota City) from 2015, and these existing stations were built with a design for the use of FC passenger vehicles which were started to sell at the time.

Following the relocation and establishment, these stations were renamed Atsuta Hydrogen Station (Nagoya City) and Toyota Tsutsumi Hydrogen Station (Miyoshi City), respectively. They have enough site area for large FC vehicles and changed the method of hydrogen transportation and storage from the conventional one by curdle (with which hydrogen is delivered in a small bundle of containers) to the large capacity trailers to increase transportation and storage capabilities and enhance efficiency. In addition, the stations have been installed with the major facilities such as compressors to have higher compression capabilities, enabling them to be a new type of station that can supply hydrogen to large FC vehicles and continuously refuel vehicles faster.

Atsuta Hydrogen Station will provide a service to refuel a shuttle buses with hydrogen at AEON Mall Atsuta, which is the first private company in Nagoya City to introduce FC buses. Toyota Tsutsumi Station will also address the increase in demand for hydrogen for refueling at logistics companies clustered nearby in line with the expected introduction of large FC trucks.

This initiative serves as the hydrogen/alternative fuel strategy in seven priority areas, which Toyota Tsusho positions as growth strategies in the Mid-Term Business Plan. The Toyota Tsusho Group will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation and industry sector and the transition to a decarbonized society by promoting the hydrogen-related business in order to deliver a better global environment to the children of the future.
