Signing of Framework Agreement for Collaboration with the Government of Kenya

Toyota Tsusho Corporation (hereinafter: Toyota Tsusho) today announced the signing of the Framework Agreement for Collaboration (hereinafter: the Agreement)with the presence of H.E. Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, and relevant Cabinet Secretaries, at its head office in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. The purpose of the Agreement is to contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality in Kenya, through establishing a green energy value chain that connects the "Generation", "Distribution" and "Utilization" phase, and promoting industrial development and capacity building, including the following four areas.
(1) Cooperation on the development of renewable energy projects
The Kenyan government has set a goal to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030. Toyota Tsusho will collaborate with the Kenyan government to promote the development of new power generation projects utilizing Kenya's abundant renewable energy resources, including geothermal, solar, and wind power.
(2) Cooperation on the expansion of high-efficiency transformers
Electricity losses during transmission and distribution is a challenge in Kenya. To contribute to the reduction of distribution electricity losses and improvement of energy efficiency, Toyota Tsusho will conduct demonstration of high-efficiency transformers, feasibility study of local production and capacity building.
(3) Cooperation on the promotion of electrified vehicles through the "Multi-pathway"
Renewable energy already accounts for 90% of Kenya's power generation, and the government is promoting the adoption of electrified vehicles. Toyota Tsusho will collaborate with the Kenyan government to promote the electrified vehicles, starting with hybrid vehicles, through the "Multi-pathway" approach.
(4) Cooperation on the development of the Kenyan automotive industry
The Kenyan government aims to increase local production through the implementation of the National Automotive Policy (NAP) including regulations on used cars. With the support of NAP, Toyota Tsusho will work on improving productivity and enhancing competitiveness of local automotive assembly industry.
At the signing ceremony, H.E. Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya stated, " The signing of the Framework Agreement that we have witnessed this morning is a testimony of the relationship that exists between our country and Toyota Tsusho, and the harvesting of a new dawn of deeper and much more expanded collaboration between Toyota Tsusho and Kenya.
