At the World Design Expo, held in Nagoya over fourmonths from July 1989, the Toyota Group Hall hosted exhibits by Toyota Tsushoand 13 other Toyota Group companies and attracted 2.7 million visitors.Toyota Tsusho also became an investor in the Nagoya-based Nagoya GrampusEight soccer team of J-League, which was founded in Japan in 1993. At the timeof the company’s investment, the team was composed of players from the originalTMC team that belonged to the Japanese league at its inception and from localcompanies in the Toyota Group. Together with the Chunichi Shimbun Co., Ltd.,Toyota Tsusho was committed to investing in a team rooted in the region. ToyotaTsusho not only invested but also cooperated with the local team, such as bysharing the team’s activities internally.Toyota Tsusho’s contributions to local communities included cooperating inthe Spring and Autumn traffic safety activities conducted by the Toyota Group.Employees took turns standing along streets and appealing to drivers to ensuretraffic safety and the correct use of seat belts. Until 1996, participation in thesecampaigns also involved radio commercials sponsored by 10 Toyota Groupcompanies.94
