Kako Co., Ltd. In June 1990, the first NTS improvement presentation was held.NTS efforts were expanded overseas, and in December 1995 the first overseasNTS improvement presentation was held in Hong Kong.Development of total quality control (TQC) activities progressed at affiliatedcompanies in Japan and overseas. In May 1991, the first Toyotsu Group-WideQC Circle Conference was held by the TQC Secretariat, which consists ofrepresentatives from Toyota Tsusho and six affiliated companies. In 1995, the firstQC seminar was held at Toyota Tsusho (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and QC has sincespread to the entire group.Section 3 Aiming for Harmony with SocietyWaste recycling dry distillation furnace1 Working on Environmental IssuesIn the 1990s, global environmental problems, such as global warming andenvironmental pollution caused by CO 2 emissions, came to the fore. ToyotaTsusho worked on environmental issues separately and in cooperation with otherToyota Group companies.Efforts were made in both the development and commercialization ofenvironmental businesses that contribute to the global environment. Toyota Tsushoalso strove for energy conservation and waste disposal efforts on its own accountand within the Toyota Tsusho Group.Its environmental business start-ups included an end-of-life vehicle (ELV)processing operation in collaboration with Toyota Metal Co., Ltd.; a waste oilprocessing operation with Toyota Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd.; and industrialwaste volume reduction, detoxification treatment, galvanized steel sheet pressing,vacuum dezincification equipment sales, packaging cardboard recycling, andwaste plastic recycling businesses. In addition, group company Toyota Metal Co.,Ltd., collected abandoned vehicles and such other large waste as motorcyclesand washing machines. Toyotsu Oil Center developed a magnetized, air-typeanticorrosion machine. Toyotsu Recycle Corp. recovered platinum, rhodium, andpalladium from automotive catalysts and recycled used parts. Toyota ChemicalToyota Metal Co., Ltd., ASR recycling plant in full operation since August 199892
