(TAMK) This, Toyota Tsusho’s first used carsales company outside Japan, sold high-quality used carsand provided vehicle maintenance services in Kenya.Toyota Tsusho had been engaged in new car sales,the parts and servicing businesses for Toyota vehiclesfor many years in Kenya through its wholly ownedsubsidiary Toyota Kenya Ltd. (TKEN); however, theadvent of TAMK and the business it developed led to thecreation of a new automotive value chain in the countryfor Toyota Tsusho.Establishment of a Human Resource Training CenterIn July 2014, Toyota Tsusho opened Toyota KenyaAcademy, a division of TKEN, at the Toyota BusinessPark in Nairobi. With the academy, Toyota Tsusho aimsto contribute to Kenya’s long-term strategic vision,VISION 2030, which includes the goal of developing aglobally competitive and adaptive human resources base.The academy’s training curriculum includes coursesfor the general public and employees of local companieson maintaining and servicing automobiles, constructionequipment, and agricultural machinery; on safety andkaizen; and on leadership.Toyota Kenya Academy is the manifestation of ToyotaTsusho’s desire to go beyond simply training its ownengineers. The company wishes to contribute to the localcommunity through education.3 Business Development in EgyptProduction of CKD SUVsTomen established an office in Egypt before its mergerwith Toyota Tsusho. Its strong relationship with theEgyptian government and local companies spannedmore than 80 years and encompassed thermal powerplant construction; infrastructure businesses, includingthe chartering of offshore drilling rigs; and energyinitiatives. In May 2011, Toyota Tsusho, together withTMC and Toyota Egypt S.A.E., TMC’s distributorin Egypt, established a local corporation for a CKD(complete knockdown) assembly project. The productionof Fortuner SUVs commenced at that company in April2012.Initiatives in the Energy BusinessIn 2002, Tomen won a contract to supply the equipmentfor a gas turbine power generation facility operated byCairo Electricity Production Co. (CEPC). In 2007, ToyotaTsusho, following its merger with Tomen, received anorder from the West Delta Electricity Production Co.and Middle Delta Electricity Production Co. for four gasturbine generators, and in 2008 it received another orderfor ancillary equipment and a steam generator for a gasturbine power plant. Then, in 2009 the company won twopower plant maintenance contracts.Earlier, in 2008, Toyota Tsusho launched an offshoregas field drilling rig chartering project.
