7 A Partnership with a Leading Japanese EggProducerToyota Tsusho formed an alliance in August 2013 withleading domestic Japanese egg producer Ise Foods Inc.and created joint venture company Egg Dream Yachiyoin Ibaraki Prefecture’s Yachiyo-cho in October of thesame year. A poultry farm for 1.2 million birds and apacking plant were built as Toyota Tsusho entered theegg production industry.As the number of successors to farmers in the Japanesedomestic egg industry has decreased under the impact ofan aging society, facilities investment has been increasingin order to meet the high-quality demanded by majorretailers, and increasingly larger scales of productionwere becoming essential. Under such circumstances,Toyota Tsusho and Ise Foods offered the stable supplyof eggs the market demanded and succeeded in meetingdemand for eggs in the Kanto area. In April 2018, ToyotaTsusho contributed funds to Ise Foods to help it promotethe stable supply of eggs in Japan and overseas.8 Development of the Insurance BusinessThe Accounting Department’s Insurance Section beganoffering personal injury insurance in 1950. Once theInsurance Department was established in 1959, it wasin charge of building and selling insurance products foremployees and their families, such as group automobileinsurance systems and combined sales systems for lifeinsurance and personal injury insurance, supporting theToyota Group’s welfare system on the insurance front.In 1990, Toyotsu Family Life (TFL), acting as a lifeinsurance agency, was created. Then, in 2006, ToyotaTsusho Hoken Customer Center (THCC) was set up andequipped with a call center and accident consultationcenter for the purpose of improving services forinsurance policyholders.In April 2013, the insurance agent business of theInsurance Department integrated with THCC andTFL to form Toyota Tsusho Insurance Partners (TIP),establishing a one-stop shop for life and nonlife insuranceneeds. The number of company policyholders subscribingto the insurance system for employees (including familymembers) rose to more than 600,000 and TIP became atop-level insurance agency in Japan.In 1997, insurance broker Toyota Tsusho InsuranceManagement Corp. (TIM) was created to offer solutionsto the new risks that appeared in addition to building andrunning the insurance programs targeting Toyota Groupenterprises.Overseas, Toyota Tsusho established an insurancebroker in Brazil in 1983. Thereafter, Toyota Tsushobegan providing insurance services at 20 locations in 13countries, mainly in Southeast Asia.9 Growing the Nursing Care BusinessWith the Japanese government’s inauguration ofa nursing care insurance system in 2000 came theexpanding market for nursing care.
