6 Establishing Be the Right ONEThe Global 2020 Vision was established in April 2016as a new guideline and guidepost. With the goal of beingthe one and only for all customers and stakeholders,“Bethe Right ONE”was also created as the ideal image andvision.“Be the Right ONE”consisted of three elements:(1)“The Right ONE for you,”which means to provideoptimum safety, service, quality, and reliability to meetthe on-site needs of stakeholders; (2)“The Right ONEfor us,”which means to strive to maximize the power ofeach person to achieve solidarity beyond organization,region, gender, and nationality to leverage comprehensivecapabilities; and (3)“The Right ONE for the future,”which means cultivating strengths and knowledge toassure a sustainable society and future. Demonstratingthe Toyotsu Core Values (including the genba [on-site]focus of collective force and innovator spirit) enlarges thescale of operations so that Toyota Tsusho can contributeto achieving a highly convenient society in the future,a comfortable and healthy society, and a sustainablesociety in each of the three areas of Mobility, Life andCommunity, and Resources and Environment.Section 3 Cultivating New Businesses1 Start of the Entrepreneurial Support SystemThe Entrepreneurship Support System started inApril 2002. With this system, an employee establishes acompany based on a business plan he or she proposes andbecomes the president of that company. In accordancewith the challenge put forth in“Toward the Creationof an Entrepreneurial, Agile and Dynamic CorporateClimate”described in the company vision, anyone witha proposal was given the opportunity to be a companypresident. On the occasion of the start of the system,President Masaaki Furukawa made it known that hewanted“all employees to carve their own way based onfundamental beliefs. Have dreams and visions, and don’tbe reluctant to make the effort to achieve them. I wantyou to take more and more advantage of this systemas a means,”he concluded. This system resulted in thecompanies Vestech Japan (liquidated in 2011), WindAlpha,J-Wind,andDMEInternational.2 Participation in a CO 2 Emissions ReductionProjectToyota Tsusho got involved in the CO 2 emissionstrading-related business in 1999 through entry intothe trading of emissions rights. The company investedin NatSource Japan Co., Ltd., an intermediary ofgreenhouse gas emissions trading, and entered theBritish trading market. In addition, participation in CO 2reduction projects in developing countries (CDM) wonToyota Tsusho emissions rights that the company couldsell.In February 2002, Toyota Tsusho filed an applicationfor a project that became the first private-sector CDMproject approved by the government of Japan. The objectof the project was for a Brazilian steel company tocontinue to use charcoal-based steel production insteadof coke from fossil fuels to reduce emissions of CO 2 , andgain credits for the amount reduced.
