This was a project that hadbeen in progress since 1989. In addition to capital investment, Toyota Tsushowas responsible for coordinating the project, including local factory construction;equipment procurement and installation guidance; production, accounting, andgeneral affairs management system construction; and sales promotion activities.Because the domestic market in Pakistan was small, Toyota Tsusho aimed toexport to other countries while also cultivating the Pakistani market.Toyota Techno Park India (TTPI)Multifaceted Business Development in IndiaIn India, Toyota Tsusho aimed to develop multifaceted businesses, includingthe Techno Park business, Toyota vehicle sales, and logistics. Toyota Techno ParkIndia Pvt. Ltd., (TTPI) was established as a joint venture with TMC in Bangalorein September 1998. It provided support for Japanese parts suppliers that hadexpanded into India and supplied parts to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Ltd.(TKM). It also provided land, buildings, power plants, and the various servicesnecessary to start local production.In March 1999, Toyota Tsusho acquired Toyota sales agent Toyota Lakozy AutoPvt. Ltd. (TLAL) in the Mumbai region of Maharashtra with a 93% stake andstarted sales of Toyota vehicles.The following month, Toyota Tsusho established Steel & Logistics CenterPvt. Ltd. (SLC) within TTPI as a joint venture. SLC was the first company inwhich Toyota Tsusho integrated the Metals Division (steel sheet processing) andLogistics Division (logistics center) (this company integrated with local officesand renamed Toyota Tsusho India Pvt. Ltd. [TTIPL] in 2007).In 1998, Toyoda Machine Works, Ltd. (currently JTEKT Corp.), and MysoreKirloskar Ltd., a machine tool manufacturer in the Kirloskar group in India, signedan agency contract for Toyoda Machine Works machine tools and an after-salesservice contract.
