Manufacturer of Synthetic Resin Compounds Established in United States with Construction Work for Manufacturing Plant to Commence

2009-05-28

Toyota Tsusho Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Toyota Tsusho"; headquarters: Nagoya City; President: Junzo Shimizu), Toyota Tsusho America, Inc. (headquarters: Georgetown, Kentucky; President: Masanori Yamase), and Sanyo Kako Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sanyo Kako"; headquarters: Tokyo; President: Koji Saiki) established in February 2009 a company for manufacturing synthetic resin compounds in the United States. Construction work for the company's manufacturing plant will start in June 2009 at Franklin, Indiana in the United States, with operations set to begin in April 2010.

1. Background and purpose of establishing the joint venture
Demand for locally procured, highly functional plastics is on the rise, with accelerated local production by Japanese companies in the automotive and electrical machinery industries doing business in the United States in recent years. Toyota Tsusho established a joint venture in the United States quickly and precisely in order to meet this demand. The company will enter into the industry as an order-made processing business of highly functional plastics intended for synthetic resin manufacturers.
Sanyo Kako has a track record spanning 50 years in the business of plastic compounds, including the color processing of plastic materials. The company owns affiliated manufacturing plants at eight locations throughout Asia.
Through the utilization of technologies and know-how that have been nurtured over the years in the production of plastic compounds at Sanyo Kako and by taking advantage of the network at Toyota Tsusho, the company intends to establish a value chain in the future, comprising all aspects of the plastic compound business from upstream to downstream.
