(Toyotsu's forest)afforestation project
2009-05-25
Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Headquarters: Nagoya City; President: Junzo Shimizu; hereinafter referred to as "Toyota Tsusho") implemented the Toyotsu no Mori afforestation project on May 23, 2009, at a plantation designated for afforestation in the foothills surrounding Mount Fuji. This environmental project is intended to popularize and promote full-scale social contribution activities.
Toyota Tsusho regards people (education), society (welfare), and the Earth (environment ) as critical topics for the company's corporate philosophy. Toyota Tsusho therefore is actively engaged in activities that make social contributions on a global scale, which may play a part in the realization of a prosperous society. This project was conducted at Narusawa-mura in Minamitsuru-gun of Yamanashi Prefecture, with the cooperation of the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement International (OISCA International; Headquarters: Suginami-ku, Tokyo; Chairperson: Ryoko Nakano; hereinafter referred to as "OISCA"), as well as people of various businesses, governmental administrations, and regional communities. The intended aim of the project is to deepen the interchange between the activities'participants and people of regional communities as well as to promote an understanding regarding the necessity of forest preservation, through the continued implementation of forest conservation activities such as afforestation and the clearing of undergrowth.
Last year was considered to be the "Year for Sowing", and activities in August involved the clearing of undergrowth at the prefectural forest located in an area surrounding Mount Fuji. One hundred volunteers, comprising employees of Toyota Tsusho and affiliated companies and their families, participated in the project this year with the cooperation of OISCA. One thousand seedlings were planted to afforest an area of one hectare, which also resulted in a deepening interchange among the participants.
Activities including management tasks such as the clearing of undergrowth in areas designated for afforestation will be actively performed in the future. Furthermore, comprehensive management of areas designated for afforestation will be conducted by the government of Yamanashi Prefecture, the Yamanashi Prefecture Forestry Maintenance and Liquidation Cooperative, and OISCA.
