The Toyota Tsusho Group, which operates a diverse range of renewable energy businesses, is involved in the expansion of wind power generation facilities and the development of transmission lines in the northern Hokkaido region. The entire Group is working together to accelerate initiatives toward carbon neutrality to passing on “A better global environment to the children of the future."

The Toyota Tsusho Group will contribute to the realization of a recycling-based society (circular economy: CE) by further refining its metal recycling business, which it has been expanding in the automotive field, and by taking on the challenge of recycling plastics.

The 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) will be held in August 2022. 2022 is the 100th year since Toyota Tsusho (including the former Tomen Corporation) started its business in Africa, and the 170th year since the Toyota Tsusho Group’s CFAO started its business in Africa. It is also the 10th year since the merger of Toyota Tsusho and CFAO, making it a milestone year. This Project Story will introduce the Group’s initiatives and history in Africa that will be further accelerated through the opportunity provided by TICAD8.

Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) are used widely in innovative technologies like smartphones and such next-generation automobiles as plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). Once charged, LiBs can supply power for long periods of time and deliver high output. With these advantages, demand for LiBs is expected to continue surging. The batteries get their name from the lithium carbonate used as a positive cathode material. Demand for lithium carbonate is expected to rise in proportion to battery demand. Toyota Tsusho is helping to ensure stable supplies of this critical material, lithium carbonate.

Toyota Tsusho is proud to operate a unique recycling business capable of recycling resources throughout the automobile lifecycle, from the metal scrap generated during the manufacture and processing of auto parts and automobiles, through to the recycling of end-of-life vehicles.
Our Green Metals business collects and processes metal scrap from manufacturing sites in North America, Europe, China, South Africa and other regions. Since 2000, in conjunction with automakers' expansion of manufacturing outside Japan, Toyota Tsusho has been committed to global resources recycling, primarily through Green Metals.

As the volume of end-of-life vehicles (ELV) surges in emerging countries, the Toyota Tsusho Group has taken the initiative in China by becoming the first Japanese company to launch an auto dismantling and recycling business. The aim of the business is to apply advanced technologies accumulated over the past 40 years in Japan to help solve environmental issues in China. We've embarked on an important new challenge for the future of China.

Countries in every region of the world are turning to renewable energy as the answer to reducing environmental footprint and diversifying energy. Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation has started operation of a large-scale solar power generation plant in Hawaii in January 2017. Eurus is a joint venture of Tokyo Electric Power Company (40%) and the Toyota Tsusho Group (60%), which Toyota Tsusho invested in based on its awareness of current trends. It’s a perfect marriage between local needs and our Group’s know-how.

Toyota Tsusho and the Secom Group (Japan) jointly established Takshasila Hospitals Operating Private Limited in April 2012. The hospital management company will become the first Japanese style hospital in India when it opens a general hospital in the IT hub of Bangalore, India's fourth-largest city, in March 2014.
